.Background: Codenamed “Object 701,” the IS-4 Heavy Tank weighs 60 tons, armed with a 122mm rifled tank cannon and two 12.7mm automatic firearms. Powered by a B-12 four-stroke V-type diesel engine with a maximum output of 750 horsepower, it can reach speeds up to 43 km/h on the road and has a maximum range of 170 km. Development began in 1943, with the design finalized and mass production starting in 1947. The IS-4 entered Soviet service at the end of 1948 and remained in service until the late 1970s.
