.Background Info: Goldin Finance 117, also known as China 117 Tower, is an unfinished supertall skyscraper located in the Xiqing District of Tianjin, China. Construction of the tower began in 2008, with initial plans for completion in 2014. However, the project was suspended in January 2010 due to the global financial crisis. Construction resumed in 2011, and the tower was projected to be completed between 2018 and 2019.
The building was topped out on September 8, 2015, becoming the fifth tallest building in the world at that time. As of April 2025, the tower remains incomplete and unoccupied. The project’s contractor, China State Construction Engineering Corporation, has withdrawn all workers from the site, leaving the structure in an unfinished state. The tower has since been recognized by Guinness World Records as the tallest unoccupied building in the world.
